Treetops Early Learning Centre, situated at Stepney, opened in September 2007. At the purpose built centre we offer care for children from 6 weeks to school age in an environment that caters to childrens developmental and educational needs. As a fully serviced centre you supply the child and we supply most other things – meals and snacks, nappies, sunscreen.

The four sections within the centre – Infants, Toddlers, Pre Kindy and Kindy – cater to the needs of the children and their parents. Children do not graduate from one section to another according to age but rather when they are ready. Staff evaluate childrens overall development and learning, through written observation, before discussing graduation with the parent.

Learning is based on childrens interests and qualified staff plan a curriculum that offers a wide variety of experiences in the areas of math, science, literacy, environment, health, art and creativity, physical and social development. This curriculum is based on the recommended Education Dept. document – South Australian Curriculum, Standards and Accountability Framework.

Parents are always welcome to join us and share their childs day. As a parent you are the best resource and staff welcome your input into your childs day and the centres activities. We encourage parents to share their special talents with us.

My passion for children and belief in the rights of a child in child care began 25 years ago, after completing the Child Care Certificate. This passion and belief has lead to me working in various fields relating to children, including working “on the floor” as a qualified staff, community work through a Toy Library- visiting homes of families with young children, on a referral basis, to assist with parenting skills, lecturing in Child Care, working with refugee families with young children and finally to a position of manager in a Child Care Centre.

The realization that children in child care often spend more of their waking hours within the centre and with centre staff than with their parents has pushed me to strive to achieve high quality child care in all areas of the fields I have worked in. Child Care, for me, is a profession not just a job.
